“Mastering the Craft”:
The Art of Noise with Sound Designer Joe Miller

Joseph Patrick Miller is a lifelong musician and passionate craftsman of sound. He works as a music producer, a film score composer, sound designer and/or audio engineer.

Joe’s music has been used in award winning films, television series, broadcast commercials, video games and other media formats. This work focused on creating an immersive experience for an audience through the director’s vision and medium. Regardless of the medium: Film, Games, VR, Music, et al... Joe loves collaborating with other creatives and the challenge of affecting people through music and sound.

He has earned national awards from ASCAP, multiple regional awards like Addy’s, MTAs, and was nominated for an Emmy in 2019 for original music in documentary film. From 2006 to 2012 he taught music technology, film scoring, and jazz guitar at Winthrop University and Duquesne University, but left education and opened a music production studio in 2012. Since that time, he has written music for many dozens of projects including films, television series, and videos or ad campaigns for companies’ like Microsoft, Coca Cola, TLC, Adult Swim, PBS, Fox, NASCAR, Home Depot, Mercedes Benz, and many more.

Aside from work and musical life, Joe is a devoted father and typical family guy. He lives near his extended family, where he manages the kitchen as the primary cook for large family events. He also volunteers in his local community as a youth soccer coach, event organizer for the non-profit Charlotte Synth Meet, and donates time to schools, churches, and other organizations who may struggle with audio technology or music related challenges.
